Dear [MP's name],

I’m writing to you not just as a constituent, but as someone who cares deeply about the wellbeing of our local community.

World Mental Health Day is coming up on 10 October 2025, and this year’s theme – “Connect with your Community” – reflects the importance of connecting with one another and improving social cohesion. Across Australia, people are struggling with issues like social isolation, economic stress, and the ongoing impacts of mental health challenges (either experienced by themselves or someone they love). Now more than ever, we need visible, courageous leadership to show that mental health matters.

As a community leader, you have a unique opportunity to contribute to this work. By publicly supporting World Mental Health Day – through social media, community events, or simply sharing this message with your local community – you can help break down stigma, spark important conversations, and show your constituents that their mental wellbeing is a priority.

I urge you to:

  • Share messages of support and guidance on your social media channels
  • Promote the day to your constituents
  • Advocate for stronger mental health reform in Parliament

Mental Health Australia has produced a pack of World Mental Health Day materials for you to draw upon, which can be downloaded from www.mentalhealthaustralia.org.au.

Your leadership can inspire hope and action. It sends a powerful message that mental health is not just a personal issue – it’s a community responsibility, and one that deserves national attention.

Thank you for considering this request. I truly hope you’ll stand with us on 10 October and beyond.

Yours sincerely, [Name] [Address/Suburb/Electorate]
